The Obesity Epidemic

Obesity-Desktop-01

Mike tells Sarah that America has sent the wrong messages and done the wrong things about obesity for more than half a century. Digressions include height (again), sweatshops and Julianne Moore. Sarah and Mike’s mothers both make extended appearances.

  1. Thank you so much for this article. I was able to share it on Facebook for the first time and not feel embarrassed about myself. I can relate to so many things you uncover and greatly appreciate your time and research. No article I’ve read in a long time has made me feel stronger or mentally more ok than this one. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Absolutely fantastic story on obesity. Thank you. It was so insightful, humanizing, and profound.

First I would like to state how incredible this story is. I seen this first hand in my childhood and early adult hood when I grew up obese for my first 20 years of life. I was able to transform my life by taking back my own health personally through simply redesign my mind to understand the way are bodies are meant to live to be healthy and not by what I was told was healthy. Doing so I was able to succeed by losing 200 +lbs and maintaining this weight loss for 15+ years now. Was it because of the medical field, absolutely not, it was because I took my life into my own hands and controlled my choices. Thanks for sharing and if you ever want to write an article about success of personal weight loss and maintenance, I would love to discuss..

  4. Excellent podcast and article on stigma, how we treat fat (by society’s terms) humans, and how we assume a great deal by the size a person is or isn’t. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your article about obesity. Almost everything is in it. I never talk about that subject with my friends or family but I sent this article to one of my friends, it’s the first time I do something like that! Many thanks to the people you interviewed too !

  6. Great article! I am planning/preparing for a Soirce to Sea, Solo, Mississippi River Trip by kayak in 2020. I started blogging about it this past July. One of the reasons I am doing his trip is to encourage more people to be active and live healthier, fuller lives. Your article hit on all of the points I would like to make and a lot more. I learned a good bit reading your article. I will be able to deliver my message better because of the things I learned. Thanks!

I hope that it will be OK for me to link to,your article and this blog from my blog. There’s just so,much here that people need to read. I really believe we need to change the way we think about food, about nutrition, about our bodies, and about our health.

  7. This is what people don’t understand: obesity is a symptom of poverty. It’s not a lifestyle choice where people are just eating and not exercising. It’s because kids – and this is the problem with school lunch right now – are getting sugar, fat and empty calories – but no nutrition
