'What do we want?' 'Not climate change!' 'When do we want it?' 'Within a reasonable timeframe!'

The ‘official protest’ of the COP 15 was this afternoon

I mostly went to look

Every time I go to demonstrations, two things strike me:

1. It seems like it’s the same 75 sign-carrying Euro-hobbits, no matter the cause

and 2. The ‘gather in large, chanting masses’ model seems sorta obsolete.

I’m all for showing support for climate change legislation,

But it seems like we would have come up with a more 2.0 way to do it by now.

It always seems sort of … capitalistic.

Everyone expressing their self-interest,

And hoping it will combine to make us all better off.

We massed and un-massed, chanted and swayed.

And as the day went on, we only seemed to get colder.
